Ange-Louis Janet was admitted in 1833 to the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris in the workshops of Ingres, Alexandre Colin and Horace Vernet with whom he made drawings of the history of Napoleon. He began at the Salon in 1836 and continued to participate until 1870. He painted hunting scenes, military costumes and portraits. He composed paintings tracing episodes of Françoise’s history (Crimean War, Italian Campaign, Mexican Expedition, etc.). He provides illustrations for newspapers such as L’illustration as well as for many literary works.
