Initially a student of the painter Jacques-Louis David, Alphonse Giroux (1776-1848) abandoned canvases and brushes to devote himself to the activity of dealer of paintings, objects and art furniture from 1799 to 1848 in Paris.
Under the name A. Giroux (the “magasin des Princes”) specialized in tableware and cabinetmaking supplied the nobility and the bourgeoisie with very high-end furniture. In the second half of the 19th century, one of his sons took over the business and the brand became a reference for boxes and cases.
