Gervais Durand participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1889, where he obtained a silver medal. According to the report of the Exhibition by A. Picard, “Mr Durand, cabinetmaker, as skilful as he is modest, exhibits first-rate furniture for the first time, of which he is both the designer and the executor; he walks on the path traced by masters such as Beurdeley and Dasson”. He produced almost exclusively copies of 18th century furniture.
