20th century model “le superbe”
Large model of the vessel “le Superbe” (1782-1795)
Model of the 20th century of the vessel “Le superbe”, entirely handmade.
74-gun vessel, belongs to the prolific lineage of Jacques-Noël Sané, famous engineer of Maritime Engineering who at the turn of the 18th and 19th century, left his mark on the warships of the French Navy.
Ships like “Le superbe” were the image of the last splendours of royalty and then of Napoleonic glory. Fearsome war machines, they were the most beautiful ships of their time.
The superb was of those who fulfilled their mission without particular panache. Integrated into the naval army of Villaret de Joyeuse, he left Brest one day in January 1795 despite terrible weather. Beaten three weeks in a row by the storm, the rigging broken and the hull disjointed, she was abandoned.
